Jason Isbell a deux modes musicaux principaux : solo et avec son groupe The 400 Unit. Pour ses derniers albums, il a été rejoint par son groupe, mais maintenant, il recommence à se débrouiller seul : Aujourd'hui (14 janvier), Isbell a annoncé Renards dans la neigeson premier album solo depuis 2015 Quelque chose de plus que gratuit. La sortie est prévue pour le 7 mars. Il a également partagé le premier single « Bury Me ».
Le projet est un véritable instantané d’un instant : Isbell l’a enregistré sur la même « guitare acoustique Martin 0-17 tout en acajou de 1940 » et pendant seulement cinq jours, selon un communiqué de presse.
